ATIBT - Association
Technique Internationale des Bois Tropicaux, one NGO created upon
request from FAO and OCDE, in 1951, whose headquarter is in Paris, France.
n ITTO
- International Tropical Timber Organization (ITTO, International Tropical
Timber Organization/OIBT, Organisation Internationale des Bois Tropicaux),
whose headquarter is in Yokohama, Japan, created in 1983. Its major goal
is that all tropical wood be traded come from the sustained exploration.
n FSC
- Initials of Forest
Stewardship Council. This NGO concedes the seal FSC
- the only certificate accepted internationally - it is called the green
seal.
n Smartwood
- Certification program that is the world oldest one, agreeded by the FSC
and conceded by the american NGO Rainforest
Alliance.
n PEFC
- The PEFC - Pan
European Forest Certification - is a well known paneuropean certificate
that gathers 11 certifications from European countries. It was created in
Paris, June the 30st, 1999.
n Imaflora
- Brazilian Forest Certification program. Imaflora belongs to the
Smartwood program quoted above.
