Main Wood Types Produced in Brazil

Brazil has one of the biggest forest areas of the world, with a great
diversity of species and types that produce wood and essences for pratically
every utilization.
The main species in the market (our total: 84) are:

aroeira:
is the common name of the Schinus molle, a typical tree of
central Brazil. Its resistent wood is commonly used in cabinet-maker
and its bark has medicinal properties. Main species: aroeira-branca
(Lithraea molleoides), aroeira-da-praia (Pistacia
lentiscus), aroeira-de-bugre (Lithraea brasiliensis),
aroeira-de-goás or aroeira-do-rio-grande (Schinus
lentiscifolius), aroeira-do-campo (Schinus weinmanni
aefolius), aroeira-do-sertão or urundeúva
() and aroeira-vermelha (Schinus terenbenthifolius).

aroeirana:
tree of the family of linaceae (Vantanea paniculata) very common
in South-eastern Brazil. Its wood is commonly used in the building
construction and has other several applications.

balsa:
the common name of the specie Ochroma pyramidale, whose wood
is commonly used in the making of ships.

cambará:
or camará, popular name (origin from Tupi) of
the Moquinia polymorpha, which wood is water resistent and
has many applications (whells of water mills, holders, etc). Others
species of cambará: cambará-branco or
camaratinga (Lantana brasiliensis), cambará-de-cheiro,
cambará-de-chumbo, cambará-de-espinho, camarajuba
or cambará-miúdo, cambará-verdadeiro
and cambará-vermelho (Lantana aculeata), cambará-de-folha-big
(Lantana macrophyla), cambará-de-folha-miúda
(Moquinia paniculata), cambará-preto (Piptocarpa
macropoda), cambará-roxo (Lantana lilacina).

cedro:
in Brazil, the cedro indicates, besides the conifers, trees
that produce good quality wood.

cerejeira:
the common name of the specie Prunus avium, of the family of
rosaceae. Its wood is commonly used in the luxe furniture industry
and big value instruments (objects of arts, musical instruments, etc).
Other popular names: cereja-galega and cereja-dos-passarinhos.
Other common species: the Prunus ceresus, is the cerejeira-da-europa
or gameleira-branca and has reddish wood; the cerejeira-do-pará
or cerejeira-das-antilhas (Malpighia punicifolia) and
the cerejeira-do-toná, cereja-da-terra, cereja-do-brasil
or cereja-do-mato (Dimorphandra exaltata) produce excellent
quality wood.
