These companies do international, national anbd regional calls. Embratel (ex-State monopole for regional, national and international calls has been bought by MCI WorldCom of the US. Intelig is a consortium formed among others by France Telecom. 2. The regional Telecoms for home telephones doing also national and international calls nowadays
From these companies, Telemar is the only consortium formed by brazilian investors brésiliens and is actually the major telecom company in Brazil. The zone covered by Telemar goes from l'Amazonas until Rio de Janeiro, that is to say almost all of Brazil's coast, except southern States which are covered by Brasil Telecom and the São Paulo State which is covered by Telefónica.
